Any thoughts or experience with regards to the role played by labor
unions in the financing of affordable housing in the major urban centers?
How can unions play an active, direct and focused role in the provision
of affordable housing for their members and the general public?
Thank you for your responses

Check with the Boston Redevelopment Authority about the recently
completed project developed by, I believe, the Carpenters' and Laborers'
unions. I believe it's in the Charlestown neighborhood, and I believe it
has won several awards.

Labor Unions have attempted to play a significant role in the provision
of affordable housing, but have failed. The AFL-CIO, in a very innovative
move, created the AFL-CIO Housing Trust to finance affordable housing.
The Trust, last time I looked, has $700 million in assets. Yet they have
been ineffective.
Still, if you are looking for information on labor unions and housing,
I'd start there.
