I am undertaking a research project at Women's World Banking on
non-financial business development programs for micro and small
businesses. We are interested to identify factors contributing to the
success of non-financial programs and services from cases around the
world. Would anyone who knows not-well-known but innovative
programs/services be kind to give me leads?

Categories of programs and services to be considered in this three-month
research include: technology transfer, general business training,
sub-sector specific initiative, commercial services, individual
mentoring/counseling, to give a few examples. Our focus is the bottom
half population in the developing countries, but relevant cases from the
developed world are also welcome.

The Women's Initiative Networking Groups (WINGS) provides entrepreurial
training to women in Appalachian Kentucky. They offer a 12 week course in
personal life assessment and business planning. It's a mobile training
course in that it moves into a different county for each 12 week cycle.

You should contact MS Foundation in New York. They have coordinated a
national initiative on microenterprise for low-income women. Will have
lots of contacts.
