I'd like to expand the membership of the CommunityDevelopmentBanking-l
discussion group but I've run out of colleagues I can press into service.

Do you have peers that might be interested in this list? Do you know a
discussion group that has a similar topic on which this list might be noted?
Or a print publication that could reach an appropriate demographic? Do you
go to conferences where a small flyer might be left on an information table?
Or even left on a coffee table in your workplace?

Anyway, I'm willing to send flyers to anyone who requests them. Just reply
to this message, give me a snail mail address and tell me how many copies.

I have attached below a flyer that could be cross-posted.

Alternatives Federal Credit Union is pleased to invite you to join our
discussion group on Community Development Banking. This list serves
practitioners including Community Development Credit Unions, CD Banks, CDCs,
CD Loan Funds, and non-profits involved in support. The discussions have
ranged from the practical (construction, mortgage, and small business
lending; job opportunities, conferences, fundraising) to legislative (CRA,
HMDA, and CDFI) to the cutting edge (micro-loan funds, peer lending, local
currency, targeting social impact).

Have you tried sending information about the list to The Enterprise
Foundation or the Local Initiatives Support Corporation? They are well
networked in the CDC community. The snail mail address for Enterprise is:
10227 Wincopin Circle, Suite 500, Columbia MD 21044 attn: Communications
Director. I don't know the LISC address by heart but they are headquartered
in New York City.

The deadline is changed. The federal government shutdown kept some orgs.
from getting the data they needed, then the Blizzard caused many calls
saying they couldn't get in to complete applications. Janine Jacockes
and NACDLF have both sent us word of this.

Important Message! Please notify your members!

I am writing to inform you that the application deadlines for both the
Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) and Bank Enterprise
Award (BEA) Programs are being extended to January 29, 1996. The
application deadline for the CDFI Program will move from January 22, 1996
to January 29, 1996. The application deadline for the BEA Program will
move from January 16, 1996 to January 29, 1996. All applications to both
the CDFI and BEA Programs must be received by 4:00 pm Eastern Standard Time
on January 29, 1996. A formal notice of these extensions of application
will be published in the Federal Register.

BEA applicants should note that the Assessment Period will not change,
remaining January 1, 1996 through June 30, 1996.

Two extraordinary and unanticipated events have led to the decision to
extend these deadlines. First, the snow storm of the century has shut down
the Federal government during a critical period when many prospective
applicants are seeking to get questions answered by the Fund. Second,
while not affecting the CDFI Fund directly, the furlough of some Federal
employees (which began December 16, 1995 and ended just as the snowstorm
began), has adversely impacted the ability of prospective applicants to
obtain data from some Federal agencies. This has especially affected many
prospective BEA applicants that are designating distressed communities in
obtaining needed data which is widely available to the public only through
the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The CDFI Fund has determined that given the extraordinary events noted
above, the extension of the application deadlines for these two programs is
necessary to maximize fairness for prospective applicants. Please be
advised, however, that there will be no further extensions of these
deadlines. Applications _received_ after 4:00 pm Eastern Standard Time on
January 29, 1996 will not be accepted and will be returned to the sender.

Thank you for your interest in the programs of the CDFI Fund.
