Hey Folks -
This is the link to my article on President Bush's newly proposed Bush
Opportunity Zones:
http://gothamgazette.com/article/communitydevelopment/20040928/20/1133
I could not have done it without the help of many of you on this listserve
who responded to my call for assistance. Thank you very much; even the
comments and leads I received which were not included in the article
provided much needed context and background.
You will find that the article reflects the fact that the newspaper it was
written for, the Gotham Gazette, is New York City focused. Also, you should
know that I did not originally intend to be critical of the Opportunity Zone
proposal, but was inevitably led there by facts and opinions on the ground.
In an effort to be balanced in my reporting, my next column will be on
Kerry's community development record and what New York can expect if he is
elected. If you know anybody who is in a position to comment on this subject
matter it would help me immensely. I'm looking for community development
practitioners, scholars and others who can offer an analysis - whether
favorable, critical or indifferent - of Kerry's community development past,
what he is campaigning on now and what a probable future would look like.
Thanks again.
Mark
