Hello,
I am new to this list and assume that this question has probably been up for
discussion in the past. However, being too lazy to check the FAQ, here goes. :)
I am employed by a community, non-profit radio station (100,000 watts / FM) as a
fundraiser. The radio station is funded almost totally by listeners and
underwriters (i.e. very little, if any, government assistance). The programming
on the station ranges from Blues to Jazz to Alternative Rock, etc. (hence being
a "community" radio station). Much of the programming is geared toward the low
& moderate income community and focuses on issues such as fair housing, tennants
rights, political and social rights, job information, etc.
I am beginning a campaign in which I will be approaching the banks in my town in
an effort to obtain funds/underwriting for the station. My question is, do
bands/lending institutions find value in supporting such community radio
stations? It would seem to me that there is a definite benefit to banks in such
support, i.e. community reinvestment, compliance with the fair housing act (via
"advertising"), etc. The second part of this question is, if there is a
potential for support, what dollar amount would most bands feel comfortable
about giving?
I would very much appreciate the comments, criticisms, and suggestions of the
members of this list. In advance, thank you.
