The following reply was sent to the CommunityDevelopmentBanking list in
response to an inquiry from a new user. Whereas the initial inquiry was a
valid use of the list--even with spelling errors--I find the response
should have been sent in private.
The one-line reply read as follows:
>>Hint - compose on WP, download to i-net. That way you can spell check.
If the "hint" was intended to be helpful, it came awfully close to being
condescending. If the response was meant to belittle, it has no place on
the list. Many e-mail users struggle with clumsy on-line packages which
don't make spell checking, editing or downloading easy. It can be a waste
of time to take the extra steps required to catch typos. Besides, spilling
things correclty in email is overrated. "Let's get sloppy," I have heard
others say...
