From: "Gary Funk" <gfunk@cfozarks.org>
My name is Gary Funk, and I am President of the Community Foundation of the
Ozarks, which is based in Springfield, Missouri. We are a rapidly growing
community foundation with a regional mission. Our organization serves a
wide variety of Ozarks' communities, nonprofit organizations, and donors.
We have approximately $72 million in assets, up from $24 million just five
years ago.
We have invested in a couple of community development corporation loan
programs, but our Investment Advisory Board has raised eyebrows to the
extent that I am exploring the feasibility of establishing a "community
development fund" that donors or organizations could opt into. Obviously,
this kind of fund might have not have the returns of our traditional
commingled fund, but by segregating it from our other investments, we would
have more flexibility in "investing" it back into our community.
Do you have any information or resources on this type of approach? I would
appreciate any help or suggestions as we begin to explore this concept.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
