The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee for VA-HUD and Independent Agencies voted today to allocate $73 million to the CDFI Fund for FY 2003.* ($5 million of this amount would be set aside for the Native American CDFI Technical Assistance program).* The CDFI Coalition is dismayed by this dramatic cut in funding for a program that supports CDFIs' important work in communities across the nation.*

Last year, this same Senate subcommittee endorsed a $100 million allocation for the CDFI Fund in the Fiscal Year 2002 budget.* In conference with the House, this amount was lowered to a final figure of $80 million for Fiscal Year 2002.

I encourage you to contact you state's US Senators to express your disappointment at the action the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee has taken and to encourage them to work with the CDFI industry to boost the funding level of the CDFI Fund as the appropriations process unfolds in the coming weeks and months.*
