Course Description
How to Conduct a Market Analysis

This session is designed to train you on how to conduct a market analysis
for your CDFI. The course is organized into three themes. The first, What is
a Market Study, acquaints beginners with the concept of this type of study
and its benefits, expected outcomes and relevance to the industry. Next,
Identifying Market Context and Customers introduces the concepts of need and
demand and the distinctions between them. Research Methods, presents the
types of research methods used to conduct a market analysis.

The class encompasses both quantitative and qualitative methods, including
secondary data, surveys, focus groups, and key informant interviews. You
will learn when it is appropriate to use each type of method and what types
of information each will yield. You will also learn how to decide on
outsourcing and how to use collected data. This class is helpful to a CDFI
that is starting to lend, expanding their market area, adding a new product,
or just wants a better understanding of their market.
