The Washington Heights and Inwood Development Corporation, located in Upper
Manhattan, is looking for a BO$$ program director. The BO$$ microbusiness
loan program is one of the leading microlenders in the Northeast. In 2004 we
will make 60-70 loans in Washington Heights, Inwood, Harlem and the western
Bronx totaling at least $1,200,000
Rresponsible to; Executive Director, WHIDC
Job Duties: Assists the WHIDC Executive Director in operating a program to
assist small businesses in the community. A key component is the BO$$ micro
business loan program
Works with BO$$ loan applicants to prepare and improve their loan
application. Sits on the BO$$ loan review committee. Maintains client liaison,
tracking and data management functions for the loan program. Secures, prepares
and evaluates materials for review by the loan committee, including the
development of credit memos and conducts credit checks. Visits loan applicants and
recipients at their business location to verify information, check on progress
and offer technical assistance and referral services.
Provides visitors, clients and interested individuals with program
information, conducts intake activities, answers questions regarding the BO$$ and Inwood
BID programs. Works with existing and would-be business owners to determine
what problems or barriers exist for their specific business and develop a
strategy to overcome them. Assists clients with the development of cash flow
projections and evaluates business plans.
Conducts outreach efforts to secure program participants and volunteers.
Schedules appointments for participants with technical assistance, financial,
educational, and other program service vendors.
Assists in the development, translation (Spanish/English) and reproduction of
program materials.
May be called upon to attend community meetings during nonbusiness hours
(compensatory time off will be granted).
Identifies resources for local small businesses, including public and private
sector sources of capital, management education, professional services, and
emergency assistance. Directly assists local entrepreneurs with problems
related to taxes, city services, space needs, etc. Advises businesses on the
availability of loans as well as the basic criteria used to determine credit
worthiness.
Directs a staff of two business assistance specialists
Minimum Requirements:
• College Degree Preferred
• Bilingual (English and total fluency in Spanish)
• Min. Two years experience in a community development organization or
administration/operation of a small business, or two years small business
lending experience at a bank.
• Must be bright, aggressive and well organized.
• Computer Literate Mac or PC, Word, Excel
