JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Chief Financial Officer
DIVISION: Finance
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
SUPERVISES: 4 Person staff
MISSION AND PURPOSE
Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) is a community-based non-profit
organization which advocates for equal opportunities for minorities and
underserved communities throughout New York City. AAFE has offices in
Chinatown/Lower East Side of Manhattan and Flushing, Queens. AAFE's
programs and services include affordable housing development, homeownership
counseling, immigration services, housing rights and entitlement service
counseling, civil rights advocacy, and economic development.
SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
The CFO is a key member of the senior management team; s/he reports to the
Executive Director and works very closely with the Treasurer and other
members of the Finance Committee. The CFO is responsible for ensuring the
integrity of AAFE and all its affiliates' financial management. The CFO
provides leadership and oversight in the full range of financial management
systems including fiscal analysis, budgeting, internal controls, audits and
reports. The CFO oversees a staff of four.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Analyze internal financial systems, and establish long-and short-term
plans, policies, procedures and controls to ensure an effective, efficient
and stable organizational infrastructure.
§ Oversee the development and management of the organization's annual
operating budget; facilitate the annual budgeting process with appropriate
staff; and make recommendations to the Executive Director. Develop
long-range, capital and other special budgets. as required.
§ Oversee accounting and finance activities to ensure the fiscal integrity
and accuracy of annual audits, tax reports and other required filings.
§ Oversee fiscally binding contracts and agreements, and ensure that
contract terms are met.
§ Coordinate the production of financial reports, and present reports to
the Executive Director, Treasurer, Board of Directors, funders and others,
as required.
§ Supervise the work of Finance Department staff, and work closely with the
organization's senior managers.
§ Coordinate and oversee the work of external auditors.
§ Oversee the organization's purchase and renewal of liability coverage.
§ Hire, supervise and evaluate Department staff. Work with Executive
Director to integrate any new staff, and upgrade the capacity of the
division as a whole.
§ Participate on committees of the Board of Directors related to finance.
QUALIFICATIONS
§ A minimum of ten years experience in finance, accounting or a related
field, including at least five years management experience in finance.
Understanding of nonprofit management and governance preferred.
§ Superior ability to develop strategic financial plans to support
institutional and programmatic goals, and to strengthen AAFE's fiscal and
operational position.
§ Expertise in financial analysis and management, accounting, budget
development, control and reporting, and internal controls
required. Experience in management of investment income required.
§ Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
§ Solid organizational skills; demonstrated success supervising staff;
ability to collaborate with executives and volunteer leaders.
§ Knowledge of computerized accounting programs; proficiency with MS
Office, etc. is required. Knowledge of MIPS a plus.
§ B.A. or B.S. Degree required. C.P.A. strongly preferred; Masters Degree
in Accounting, Finance or related field is a plus.
SALARY

TITLE: Director of Development
DIVISION: Development
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
The Director of Development is a member of the senior management
team. S/he is responsible for planning, directing and implementing a
comprehensive fundraising program, including corporate and foundation
contributions, major gifts, special events, and mail appeals for AAFE. The
Director of Development will also be expected to greatly increase AAFE's
private sector income and donor base.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Create plans to generate revenue for established operations, new programs
and projects; develop both an annual and multi-year fundraising plan.
· Oversee development of all written fundraising materials, including grant
proposals, appeal letters, funding reports, etc.
· Establish a planned giving program and identify, cultivate and solicit
donors.
· With Executive Director, work with Board and guide and assist them in
carrying out their responsibilities. Develop reports for Board
meetings. Make presentations at Board Meetings.
· Develop and monitor the Development Department budget (income and expenses).
· Manage the day-to-day operations of the Development Department.
· Hire, supervise and evaluate Department staff. Encourage the
professional development of staff so they may increase their effectiveness
on behalf of AAFE.
QUALIFICATIONS
· A minimum of seven years of nonprofit fund development experience
including at least five years in a management/supervisory position,
preferably with an advocacy, social service and/or community development
organization.
· Hands on experience with foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, and
major gifts.
· Record of success in achieving fund development goals.
· Self-starting, entrepreneurial, independent sensibility required.
· Excellent writing and interpersonal skills.
· Demonstrated working relationships with executives, board members, and
volunteers.
· Familiarity with computerized data and fundraising management
software. Experience with Raisers Edge preferred.
· Comfort level working with a multi-faceted social services organization.
· B.A. or B.S. Degree required; Masters Degree is a plus.
