This message is for those list serve members who may be interested in
volunteering their time and skills to help struggling farmers in
developing countries:
CNFA is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC that sends
folks from the US agriculture sector on three week overseas assignments.
The volunteer program is funded by the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID), and CNFA covers all expenses related
to the assignment, including airfare. The volunteer provides his or her
time and knowledge. Each of the volunteer assignments is designed for
one person only (as opposed to a team) and is approximately three weeks
in length. If you would like to find more information on this program,

By sharing your knowledge and skills with struggling farmers in the
developing countries of the former Soviet Union and Africa, YOU CAN HELP

Currently we have several volunteer positions open, including:
UKRAINE:
1). Training of Trainers in Business Planning and Financial Management:
Train Ukrainian commercial trainers in delivering the pre-existing
Business Planning and Financial Management Training Modules to agro
dealers in their area. Assist commercial trainers in developing their
action plans for marketing the modules to agro dealers and small
agribusiness owners. This assignment is planned for Sept. 2004.
2). Training of Trainers in Retail and Marketing Strategy and
Consultative Salesmanship: Train Ukrainian commercial trainers in
delivering the pre-existing Consultative Salesmanship and Retail and
Marketing Strategy Training Modules to agro dealers in their area.
Assist commercial trainers in developing their action plans for
marketing the modules to agro dealers and small agribusiness owners.
This assignment is planned for Sept. 2004.
BELARUS:
1). Free Stall Housing Design: Teach farm managers the various
components of a free stall housing system. Work with farm managers to
design free stall housing plan, including floor plans, management
information and construction details. This assignment is planned for
August or Sept. 2004.
MOLDOVA:
1). Milk Production II: Work with milk suppliers of a small, developing
dairy cooperative to identify and understand sound dairy farm management
practices and actions (with timelines) for implementation on their
farms, help them learn how to produce various feeding components on
their farms (i.e. alfalfa, corn, etc.) and crate a cost-benefit analysis
for utilizing these feeds and work with them to develop and begin to
implement a dairy nutrition training program for its suppliers and begin
training suppliers.
2). Veterinary Service Development II: This follow-on assignment is
designed to assist the manager of a small dairy cooperative in
developing a job description for a newly-hired veterinarian, train the
manager and veterinarian in how to manage inventory in the cooperative's
pharmacy, teach the coop's veterinarian the difference between
"prevention" and "intervention" approaches in managing the veterinary
service help the prepare a long-term development plan for the veterinary
service component of the cooperative's business plan.
