I am conducting a literature review on community development banks,
community development credit unions and mainstream credit unions. I am
interested in general information (such as history, background and trends)
and services to lower-income consumers.

I would appreciate any advice on articles, books and references. I will
share the resulting reference list on this list serve.

Thank you.

Marva, please also reference the work of the CDFI Data Project (CDP). The
CDP is a major research effort collecting and analyzing information on the
financial performance, institutional characteristics, and community
development outputs of the CDFI Industry. The CDP aggregates data from each
of the major CDFI sectors, including credit unions, banks, loan funds, and
venture capital funds. The data is collected via surveys administered by
five major CDFI trade associations to their constituents. If you go to:
http://www.cdcu.coop/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=624 you will find the annual
joint CDP publications on all of the CDFI sectors, as well as a more
detailed study of community development credit unions by the National
Federation of CDCUs based on CDP data. The CDP can also run custom data
requests on the three years of data we have collected. Please contact me at
the coordinates below for data pertaining to CD credit unions or Beth
Lipson, the Project Manager, ( bethl@communitycapital.org
<mailto:bethl@communitycapital.org> , 215.320.4315) for data pertaining to
other CDFI sectors.
